WHAT TO EXPECT

Talks, Keynotes & Live Demonstrations

You can look forward to contributions from both industry and academia under the theme “Equilibrium and Beyond”, covering topics from classical CALPHAD and thermodynamic database development to process simulation, kinetics, sustainability, and industrial applications. The program will feature presentations and live demonstrations focused on practical modeling workflows, advanced thermodynamic concepts, and approaches for treating systems beyond equilibrium in real-world simulations.

This year’s keynote speakers include Markus A. Reuter, former Technology Director NF at SMS group and internationally recognized expert in industrial metallurgy, circular economy, and simulation-driven resource efficiency; Olena Volkova, Institute Director at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, whose work connects thermodynamic modeling with practical process understanding in steel technology and ferrous metallurgy; and Alexander Pisch, CNRS Research Director and Chairman of SGTE, known for his contributions to applied thermodynamics, thermodynamic database assessment, and engineering-oriented process modeling.

Alongside the talks, hands-on demo sessions will once again play a central role, providing space for in-depth technical discussion and exchange beyond the presentations.

Hybrid Format, Exchange & Networking

The Users’ Meeting will again be held in a hybrid format, allowing participants to join presentations and demo sessions both on site in Aachen and online. The on-site program will include additional interactive formats such as “Bring Your Own Problem”, creating opportunities for direct collaboration, technical troubleshooting, and spontaneous discussion with developers, researchers, and fellow users.

Beyond the technical sessions, the meeting is designed to encourage personal exchange and networking throughout the event. Coffee breaks and an informal group dinner provide space to continue conversations beyond the lecture hall, exchange experiences from practical projects, and build connections across industry and academia. Whether during talk or demo sessions, or over coffee, the Users’ Meeting aims to combine technical depth with an open, collaborative atmosphere.

CALL FOR SPEAKERS

The speaker program for the 2026 Users’ Meeting is filling up quickly, but we are still looking for a limited number of short, conference-style presentations (around 15 minutes, plus time for discussion). These presentations should be similar in format to those from previous years.
If you are working with our tools, developing models, or applying thermodynamic methods in practice, we’d be very interested to hear from you!

Typical contributions include:

  • Case studies, industrial or research applications
  • Modeling approaches, workflows, and use of FactSage, ChemApp for Python, or related tools
  • New ideas, novel applications, challenges, or lessons learned from your field
