The field of Technical Thermochemistry
is extremely wide. It covers problems involving extremes of temperatures
such as salt solutions in water at room temperature, combustion of
fuels at some hundred degrees, or technical plasmas at some thousand
degrees. It is applicable to the improvement of low-tech applications
such as the aluminothermic welding of rails or the development of
high-tech applications such as the liquid phase epilaxy in microchip
manufacture. It helps in the understanding of generally accepted technologies
such as the production of light bulbs as well as highly controversial
technologies such as nuclear power generation. It is also used in
explaning geophysical phenomena at the extremes of our solar system,
e.g. the core of the earth and the solar nebulae.
